essex ia175 introduction to psychology understood by utilising techniques that study

Please follow the instructions below very carefully. Do not simply create your own titles or use existing titles from the academic year. If you do, you will receive a mark of zero. You must keep a copy of all work that you submit. No extensions will be given to this deadline, and the normal late submissions policy applies
You need to complete BOTH a 1250 word essay AND a multiple choice test. You cannot pass the resubmission if you do not submit both pieces of work.
The essay is worth 70% and the multiple-choice test is worth 30%.
Assignment task: All behaviour can be understood by utilising techniques that study the brain. Discuss this claim drawing on examples from psychological research.
Any words beyond this will not be read. Your work should be 1.5 or double lined spaced and you should state the word count on the front page.
Marking criteria: The relevant marking criteria is the same as the criteria used for the 1000 word essay submitted in February. It can be found on the module Moodle page in the assessment information folder and in the 19a6 1000 word essay folder. It is titled 19a6 marking criteria (table format).
Additional information: Your essay should be structured with an introduction and conclusion, each of which should be no more than 10% of the word count.
You need to use paragraphs in your essay, each of which focus on one key point and directly answer the question.
Pay careful attention to what is being asked of you in the question. You are being asked to discuss. This means the essay needs to focus on critical thinking. Information that is purely descriptive will not be effectively addressing the question and as such will not score well.
The question also asks you to make use of psychological research. This means you have to include evidence from psychological studies to back up the points being made. If you do not do this, you will not score well.
You also need to include in-text citations whenever you mention a study and whenever you use information from any source. You should also include a reference list that follows APA format.
Tips for writing your essay:
This is a broad question and as such it means you can draw on information from across the entire module. Obviously, you cannot include everything, therefore initially you will need to revisit the content and select which you feel best addresses the question.
When trying to decide which information would be suitable, you may find it helpful to consider:
The benefits of using techniques that study the brain. You could even consider what benefits these have over other methodology that does not study the brain.
Research that has been carried out using these techniques and what this has told us, you could even consider why those findings are important.
The limitations of only studying the brain to try and understand behaviour.
Research that has been carried out not looking at the brain and what that has told us that we would not know by only focusing on the brain.
As you will have a range of information to include, you need to make a plan and think about a logical flow for the essay.
Submission instructions: Your assignment is to be submitted via FASer
Multiple choice test
Assignment task: Multiple choice test
Assignment length: There will be 40 questions
Marking criteria: There will be four options to select from for each question. One of these will be correct, you will be awarded a mark if you make the correct selection.
Additional information: The questions can come from any of the topics covered across the academic year.
The test will be administered on Moodle and will be open throughout the reassessment period, until 13.00 on Monday 24th August. You will only have one attempt to complete the test. You can save and return to the test at any time whilst the test is live, but it must be submitted before the time it closes.
